Evil Dead Trap Movie Review
Evil Dead Trap is a sadistic 1980's Japanese Horror Movie which has spawned a couple of sequels. It is quite a traditional horror plot compared to many other Asian Horror Movies and follows a group of investigative reporters into a trap filled abandoned warehouse in search of the origins of a mysterious snuff movie.
The movie begins when a videotape arrives at a TV studio for submission on a late night show that airs film submitted by its viewers. The movie turns out to be what looks like a violent snuff movie showing a tied up female torture with a knife and finally pieced in the eye. The TV crew decides it would be great publicity for the show if they uncovered the truth behind the videotape and that maybe the show would not be axed due to the plummeting ratings.
Using the footage at the beginning of the tape which shows the murderer’s journey to the place where the torture was carried out, the crew manages to find the old abandoned warehouse and start to uncover clues about the origins of the snuff film. Unknown to them it is actually a trap set up by a fan obsessed with the show’s female presenter. One by one the crew is killed by a series of intricate and sadistic traps until the one survivor finds out the bizarre truth behind the obsessed fan… and his monstrous little brother.
The story can get a bit slow in places but when the gore happens, it happens in spectacular proportions (the chair impalement and the machete trap being the highlights). The twist at the end makes a bloodfilled and quite bizarre finale to the movie. Don’t expect a realistic story… but do expect a straight up horror quite typical of American horror movies of the time.
Overall the Evil Dead Trap is a pretty good movie, especially when you consider it was made in 1988. (Plus some of the actors are Pornstars... which is always a bonus!)
