Infection Movie Review
Infection is a superb slice of J-Horror from the makers of Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water. The feeling of isolation creates a feeling of tension in the viewer that only Japanese horror movies seem to be able to do. The demise of the hospital staff as they succumb to the infection makes for some splendid special effects and the eerie lighting and "glitchy" camera effects create a disturbing tension.
The story takes place in an isolated hospital, when an overworked and under trained nurse kills a patient due to the senior doctor requesting the wrong drugs in a moment of hospital stress. Due to the fact that the hospital is under threat of closure due to financial difficulties the team decides to cover up the death as to not harm the hospital’s already poor reputation any further.
Soon after a patient exhibiting very strange symptoms is left at the hospital doors by paramedics, even though they had been told that the hospital was full. Soon the symptoms start to spread exacerbating the already stressed-out staff’s mental state. One by one the infection kills all involved with the cover up (usually they kill themselves due to insanity)… but do they stay dead?
There's a great twist at the end when the mysterious infection reveals it's true nature and the reason for the madness (and copious amounts of green infected blood) all becomes revealingly clear.
This is a top notch horror movie relying on suspense rather than masses of gore (although there is more than enough gore to satisfy the standard gore-hound!)
