Organ Movie Review
Organ is a very sick and twisted Japanese gangster/horror movie with plenty of stomach churning gore, perverse and surreal scenes and extreme violence, that we have come to expect from the more experimental and creative Japanese directors.
To go into the storyline is going to be quite difficult as I’m not sure that I actually managed to decipher the plot. It starts with a couple of cops trying to bust an organ harvesting ring with little success. One of the cops is captured and taken away to a lab, the other cop (who is his brother… I think) is then on a mission to save him and destroy the organ harvesters… I think.
The movie then follows two stories one of which is the escaping cop tracking down the organ gangsters and the other one is the captured cop being kept alive in a cupboard with no limbs and plant growing over him, he manages to survive limblessness with the help of a scientist (who I think is the brother of the head organ harvester) and virgin blood!
I knew I’d struggle to explain the plot and to further confuse issues the two stories are interspersed with a number of surreal artistic scenes. I think the director was going for emotional responses and atmosphere rather than a solid story and he achieves this quite well. The whole movie is quite bloody, puss-filled, violent and perverted and definitely leaves you in the knowledge that you have just watched something truly horrible… even if you were not sure what!
If you are looking for a horror movie with meaning, revelations and loveable characters then don’t bother with this, if you are open to the concept of a movie as art then give it a go just for the visuals and the mind-bombing effect that it has. I will watch it again and maybe fird some deep meaning buried amongst the surrealism, and if I find that then I’ll probably give it more than three stars… for now just three though!
